Pamahsawuh... the Native American word for "beautiful world we created"
is the name of Jamestown's Native American-themed Schoolyard Habitat Site, constructed
in 2002.

In 1996, the National Wildlife Federation (NWF) created a Schoolyard Habitat Program
to meet the growing interest and needs of schools in creating and restoring wildlife
habitat on school grounds. Two Jamestown teachers and two parent volunteers received
training from the NWF in order to develop our own Schoolyard Habitat (SYH) here at
Jamestown Elementary School. In addition to providing the "how to's" of
building the SYH, the NWF also provides training on how to connect the schoolyard
habitat to the elementary school curriculum. Finally, the National Wildlife Federation
is providing a $500.00 mini-grant to Jamestown for the purpose of starting a Schoolyard
Habitat.
